BigT’s Roundup - Tuesday Late Ed. (10-16-07)

Giuliani knows what the situation is. He’s not a conservative by most people’s metrics and that is going to dog him throughout the primaries. So he does what he has to do to position himself as a conservative. He gives a right jab to Obama:

Addressing the Republican Jewish Coalition, Giuliani described Obama’s offer, during a presidential debate in July, to meet as president with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea.

“Then he went on to explain that Ronald Reagan negotiated with the communists,” Giuliani said, pausing and sighing. “I say this most respectfully: You’re not Ronald Reagan, you know?”

And then he follows that with a right uppercut to Clinton:

“Honestly, in most respects, I don’t know Hillary’s experience. She’s never run a city, she’s never run a state. She’s never run a business. She has never met a payroll. She has never been responsible for the safety and security of millions of people, much less even hundreds of people.

“So I’m trying to figure out where the experience is here. It would seem to me that in a time of difficult problems and war we don’t want on the job training for an executive. The reality is that these areas in which - maybe there are some areas in which she has experience but the areas of having the responsibility of the safety and security of millions of people on your shoulders is not something Hillary has ever had any experience with.”

Rudy must be seen as the guy who is hitting the left with everything he’s got. Accusing Obama of not being Reagan is true but it also serves the effect of implying that Rudy is like Reagan. And saying that Hillary doesn’t have any experience, while also true, points out that Rudy is the one with the most experience. This is the only thing that he can do though. He’s not seen as a conservative and fosters much distrust from the conservative base. For him to have any chance at getting the nomination others will have to fall on their face.

And speaking of falling on one’s face; Nancy Pelosi’s pet resolution admonishing Turkey for the Ottoman genocide of Armenians has lost a bunch of steam.

Worried about antagonizing Turkish leaders, House members from both parties have begun to withdraw their support from a resolution supported by the Democratic leadership that would condemn as genocide the mass killings of Armenians nearly a century ago.

Almost a dozen lawmakers had shifted against the measure over the last 24 hours, accelerating a sudden exodus that has cast deep doubt over the measure’s prospects. Some representatives made clear that they were heeding warnings from the White House, which has called the measure dangerously provocative, and from the Turkish government, which has said House passage would prompt Turkey to reconsider its ties to the United States, including logistical support for the Iraq war.

Oh well, she tried hard to cause a ruckus in an already troubled land and failed. Turkey is instrumental for any success we are going to have in that region. And if Nancy Pelosi got her way and we condemned that ally in the international community we probably would not just have lost their support for logistics they might have launched a military incursion into Kurdish Northern Iraq to get at some terrorists who have been attacking Turkish civilians and military. After what Ms. Pelosi almost accomplished today she may get her wish still.

Let me go back to Giuliani quickly if that’s OK. Is it? Good, thank you. Jim Geraghty at the Campaign Spot on NRO has a rebuttal to Ms. Clinton’s Foreign Affairs essay. He takes issue with ten specific points and provides a blueprint for Mr. Giuliani and any other republican or democrat (Obama, I’m talking to you) who wants to do battle with Hillary over international politics. My favorite point is number 6.

You write, “If Iran is in fact willing to end its nuclear weapons program, renounce sponsorship of terrorism, support Middle East peace, and play a constructive role in Iraq, the United States should be prepared to offer Iran a carefully calibrated package of incentives.” What on God’s green earth makes you think they’re willing to meet one of those four conditions, never mind all four?

This is one of my biggest problems with the present-day incarnation of the democrat party - they think that they can reason with every tyrannical dictator for God knows what reason. Sure, talk with them but don’t be so damn naive as to think you’re ever going to change any of these dictator’s minds. Bill Clinton got major plaudits for getting so very close to brokering a peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis but got turned down by Yasser Arafat even though the terms were extremely generous. Making a similar mistake with Iran would not mean a normal intifada at the end of the failed peace accords but a nuclear holocaust.

One of the most revered scientists in the history of genetics has made a mistake of his own. Dr. Watson of Watson and Frick fame, one of the guys who won the Nobel for discovering the structure of DNA, has come out and said that black people are dumber than white people based on genetics. A couple of observations. First, is he one of the scientists who forms the “consensus” of scientists who believe in global warming? Secondly, I bet he’s going to get a worse reception then Dr. Ahmadinejad. Finally, why don’t other scientists just shoot down the theory based on scientific fact? I mean, come on, this has to be like low hanging fruit for some other scientists. Take this opportunity to banish this ugly eugenics comeback once and for all.

Staying on race for a little while longer I have a question for you. What would you call a group whose biggest objective is to intimidate blacks with the threat of murder if they don’t leave their homes? A white supremacist group? Well, unfortunately for the leftist multi-culti and the open boarders crowd this group, on the street they’re called gangs, is made up of illegal alien Mexicans. The gang, called Florencia 13, has been indicted for targeting innocent blacks with threats of murder in order to “cleanse” the neighborhood.

In a broader sense, the next couple of decades are going to be real telling about how race as a political issue is going to evolve. The democrat party won’t be able to straddle the fence forever between the competing interests of the Hispanics and the blacks. Hispanics are soon going to become the majority among the minorities and will warrant more attention from the parties. Already there has been a Spanish democrat debate and a bilingual republican governor in Florida as well as “comprehensive immigration reform” proposed by that governor’s president brother. What are they going to do?

BigT’s Linkapalooza:
Some debate whether to declare victory over al Qaeda Iraq.

Some say we are losing.
And some try to blow those up whom they deem UNworthy.
How does the media treat our military heroes in Iraq?
Work is now a gun free zone.
How much is your genealogy worth? $300,000,000?
