Hollywood Conservatives

Filed under: Culture, Elections — admin @ 12:59 pm

It might be a decent sized list but if we were going to create a list of Hollywood supporters of Obama I think we might need a couple more gigabytes of space.

McCain, who has pulled even with Barack Obama due in part to his very effective attacks on Obama’s “celebrity,” spent the evening collecting checks from Hollywood stars or people who once might have fit that description. Among those attending: Dean Cain (Superman); James Caan (Godfather I and II, Bottle Rocket); Jon Voight (Midnight Cowboy, Deliverance); RobertDavi (License to Kill); Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk); Adam Carolla (The Man Show); Lacy Chabert (Party of Five); Angie Harmon (Law & Order); Victoria Jackson (Saturday Night Live); Gerald McRaney (Simon & Simon, Major Dad); Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men); Lorenzo Lamas (The Bold and the Beautiful, Renegade); Kevin Sorbo (Hercules); Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond); George Newbern (Father of the Bride); and Robert Duvall (The Godfather and The Godfather II, Apocalypse Now). The dinner co-chairman was Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of wildly popular television shows such as CSI, Cold Case, and Without a Trace, and films such as Pirates of the Caribbean.

Here’s something that Robert Duvall said:

He [Duvall] is incensed by comments Gore Vidal made about McCain back in June. Vidal had questioned McCain’s heroism. “Who started this rumor that he was a war hero? Where does that come from, aside from himself? About his suffering in the prison war camp?”

Duvall doesn’t think much of Vidal, whom he called “an American icon-slash-dilettante.” It’s not only John McCain who could kick Vidal’s ass.

“His 96 year-old mother could beat the crap out of Gore Vidal with her shoe,” Duvall says. “And you can quote me on that.”

That whole “songbird” smear, in which McCain is accused of collaborating with the North Vietnamese, is despicable and should not be tolerated by anyone with a soul.

“Songbird” - A Smear Against Senator McCain

Filed under: Culture, Elections — admin @ 7:37 pm

Some things are pathetic and others are disgusting. This falls into the disgusting category. Recently, I’ve seen a couple comments that labeled John McCain as “Sydney ‘Songbird’ McCain.” Having no idea what it meant other than it being obviously an insult I did a Google search for Sydney “Songbird” McCain. Here’s the first result I found.

“graduated fifth from the bottom of his class” of almost 900 graduates

“Things are taking place in a favorable opinion. The United States at present seems to be standing alone.  So much is its isolation

How did a PRISONER OF WAR know this?  Did they have a pool, a jacuzzi, and a tv for him?

Why the jewish mafia wants McCain

TRY, don’t ELECT, this Manchurian Candidate whose support comes from the CRIMINAL jew mafia

NOT a natural born citizen

RIGHTEOUSLY labled a TRAITOR!!

Son of the admiral who dishonored the USS Liberty!!

Almost sank the USS Forrestal

This is just sick, a racially tinted smear on a man who served honorably in the military, refused to go home when offered the chance, and is being insulted now only because he isn’t on the right side of the aisle for some.

I think everyone would agree that anyone who uses the term “Songbird” to smear Senator McCain is beneath contempt.

But, you know what, maybe this group using “Songbird” is just a bunch of kooks. So I looked at another result from the Google Search. Up came a long story about some guys hatred for McCain.

Within this article this guy, Doug Valentine, retells a story about his father (an American soldier) raising his rifle and shooting at American planes and standing watch while two other POWs killed another POW who gave information to their guards.

Even though he admits this:

It is impossible to prove exactly what happened to McCain short of traveling to Vietnam and tracking down his captors, and picking up thee trail where it begins.

He has no problem calling McCain a “collaborator” with the North Vietnamese. This guy even questions whether McCain was tortured or not and uses a nickname, “McNasty”, out of context (McCain got the nickname as a highschool wrestler, not a bad nickname considering the sport).

Again, this is beneath contempt. This is disgusting. But it gets worse.

“I only recently learned that the tape I dreamed I heard playing over the loudspeaker in my cell had been real; it had been broadcast outside the prison and had come to the attention of my father,” McCain said.  “If I had known at the time my father had heard about my confession, I would have been distressed beyond imagination, and might not have recovered from the experience as quickly as I did.”

But wait!  McCain did not commit suicide.  In fact, he’s alive, running for President on the “war hero” ticket, and promoting more war everywhere.  The new McCain feels no distress at having been a collaborator or a war criminal – if he ever did.

Sick. Plain old sick. There’s no way to win with someone who disagrees with you but, my God, this goes well beyond that.

I tried looking a little more and only found defamatory comments about McCain. I stopped looking after I got to the end of the first page becuase this just makes me sick.

You can disagree with McCain (I sure as Hell do on a number of issues), you can disagree with Obama. But if you are just going to throw ridiculous insults like “Songbird” at McCain or “Muslim” at Obama you need to get a life.

Get Ready To Freeze Your N@ts Off This Winter - Farmers’ Almanac Warns

Filed under: Culture, Watermelon — admin @ 2:36 pm

Based off of looking at “sunspots, the position of the planets and the tidal action of the moon” this is what the Farmers’ Almanac predicts for this winter.

The almanac’s 2009 edition, which goes on sale Tuesday, says at least two-thirds of the country can expect colder than average temperatures, with only the Far West and Southeast in line for near-normal readings.

“This is going to be catastrophic for millions of people,” said almanac editor Peter Geiger, noting that the frigid forecast combined with high prices for heating fuel is sure to compound problems households will face in keeping warm.

The almanac predicts above-normal snowfall for the Great Lakes and Midwest, especially during January and February, and above-normal precipitation for the Southwest in December and for the Southeast in January and February. The Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions should be getting an unusually wet or snowy February, the almanac said.

What do the experts say?

The almanac’s winter forecast is at odds with that of the National Weather Service, whose trends-based outlook calls for warmer than normal temperatures over much of the country, including Alaska, said Ed O’Lenic, chief of the operations branch at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.

The Almanac claims an accuracy rate of up to 85%, which, if true, is pretty amazing considering how far out the predictions are timewise and the fact that Fritz Coleman, who seems like a great guy, can’t get the local weather right a day ahead of time.

I do have to say that this August has been colder than normal with overcast mornings and nights that no longer get into the 90s F. We’ll see what happens.
