Katie Couric - “Flag Pins are the Real WMDs”

Filed under: Culture, War, Executive Suite — admin @ 2:13 pm

Katie Couric, the trusted face of the CBS news room (is she still trusted if no one watches?), has come out against the Bush administration. They are, in her words, a bunch of liars who misled everyone and got us into this silly war. She didn’t say it but her rationale is that it was probably for oil. Why else would oil men lie about war?

“Everyone in this room would agree that people in this country were misled in terms of the rationale of this war,” said Couric, adding that it is “pretty much accepted” that the war in Iraq was a mistake.

“I’ve never understood why [invading Iraq] was so high on the administration’s agenda when terrorism was going on in Afghanistan and Pakistan and that [Iraq] had no true connection with al Qaeda.”

Beyond the shocking naiveté of this woman there was al Qaeda in Iraq before we went in there. No, they didn’t sit down with Saddam and plan out 9-11 but they had terror training camps at places like Salman Pak and if you want to know the whole story about Hussein’s alliance with terror read The Connection by Stephen Hayes. And the only way that Iraq will be seen as a mistake is if the left succeeds in making their own country surrender to a bunch of terrorists.

What was truly disgusting about Couric’s statements was how she ridiculed the pro-America culture in the United States right after 9-11.

“The whole culture of wearing flags on our lapel and saying ‘we’ when referring to the United States and, even the ‘shock and awe’ of the initial stages, it was just too jubilant and just a little uncomfortable. And I remember feeling, when I was anchoring the ‘Today’ show, this inevitable march towards war and kind of feeling like, ‘Will anybody put the brakes on this?’ And is this really being properly challenged by the right people? And I think, at the time, anyone who questioned the administration was considered unpatriotic and it was a very difficult position to be in.”

I thought the rationale from the left was that it was good that other countries loved America so much after 9-11 happened and that it was a grave mistake losing that goodwill. But Katie tells a different tale, it was never a good thing that so many people loved their country (so why is it a good thing if a barber in Seville loves us?). This was probably one of the hardest times for liberals like Ms. Couric. She could no longer get away with wanton bashing of America because, especially in New York, no one would take it.

Here you have it, one of the “big three” anchors is saying that flag pins, not nukes from Iran or WMDs from Saddam, are the real WMDs. See, when you get a bunch of jingoistic Americans you get needless death and destruction and illegal war and, and, and, BUSH LIED, THOUSANDS DIED!

These newsmen are the radical left, people. They want just as much as any blogger at DailKos the total destruction of America. They have been waiting for years to find the appropriate time to spring their Marxist agenda on an unsuspecting public. They are pushing their luck here by creating a fictionalized narrative about how this war was propagated by lies.

If we let them win the moral high ground in this argument then that could very well open the door for sweeping leftist changes to our way of life. The war in Iraq isn’t going as well as we hoped, Bush and his advisers have made mistakes. But this isn’t reason enough to throw away the conservative movement. We already gave up once during the last election, don’t let that happen again. BigT
