So I jump to conclusions and I do believe that John McCain won the day at Pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church in California last night.

But who am I?  Why believe me?

I give you David Gergen, who said on CNN after last night’s event, “Obama was thoughtful but didn’t move the emotional needle very much.”

Read: Obama was professorial; a professor.

David Gergen should know.  He’s currently a professor of public service at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and director of its Center for Public Leadership. He is also editor-at-large for U.S. News & World Report and a Senior Political Analyst for CNN. In earlier years, he served as a White House advisor to Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton.

McCain is decisive and sure.  People thought, “maybe McCain will fail the test of the Evangelicals?”

How many of those American Evangelicals have more time in a communist prison than John McCain (and my own wife and many of her friends)?  How many have a greater abiding faith in their Maker?

What I saw last night said to me, McCain is a real man of strongly held beliefs.  Mr. Obama is a professor turned politician:  a product of two lines of work I have little respect for any more.  Obama waffled, posed, ran around the topics.

McCain hit the nail into the board.

Now we have all seen why Mr. Obama ran away from the opportunity to participate in “Town Hall” meetings along side Mr. McCain.  Obama can’t hold McCain’s horse so he’d better get good at the shovel.  Actually, some would say he’s pretty good at shoveling it right now.

Mr. Gergen said of the candidates, “What they must have are: inner mastery; a central, compelling purpose rooted in moral values; a capacity to persuade; skills in working within the system; a fast start; a strong, effective team; and a passion that inspires others to keep the flame alive.” 

Pretty clear to me who “won.”  And I know I am supposed to concentrate more upon loving the event as it unfolds….
