I just looked back at one of my favorite websites after finding the material for the Blackwater Responds post. The site that I went to is called specialoperations.com and it is one hell of a site for anyone who wants to learn all the information out there on our special ops guys. If you are one of them or know what they do you know that these guys are the absolute best in the world and hats off to the site for telling us more about them.

One place you definitely have to look at is Deke’s Diary. He is a special ops soldier in Afghanistan right now and writes about what he is going through. He’s a very intelligent man (they all are) and maintains probably the most well-written blog on the Internet. And this is all done by him handwriting everything and mailing it back to the states! It isn’t updated all that often for that reason but is very important for you to read. Here’s what he thinks about Iraq:

Q. I know you are in Afghanistan, but do you think the U.S. can win in Iraq? My son is there.
Melinda B. –Montana

A. That’s a tough one. I don’t think you should think in terms of the U.S. winning. The way it looks to me is, if the Iraqis can’t step up soon and take over their country both politically and security-wise, we will have a long road of either waiting for them to wake up or just phasing out our troops region by region hoping for the best. I think we will always have some presence there, though.

Sobering. And I agree.

The best source of just information on this site may be about our enemies. Just click on the SOC Terrorism Guidebook and you’ll get to download a 55 page guide detailing who our enemies are. This site has tons of other information on it and should be used as a source for anyone who wants to learn more about special operations soldiers. BigT
