Sterilization: Their Last Hope

Filed under: Watermelon — admin @ 6:48 pm

She got sterilized to save the world from Climate Change.

She won’t be having any kids!

Obviously it’s not because she’s too ugly, especially considering the fact that she’s British. She’s not having any kids because she had herself sterilized to save the environment. Yeah!

Here’s what the eco-hero has to say:

“Having children is selfish. It’s all about maintaining your genetic line at the expense of the planet,” says Toni, 35.

“Every person who is born uses more food, more water, more land, more fossil fuels, more trees and produces more rubbish, more pollution, more greenhouse gases, and adds to the problem of over-population.”

She also had an abortion for the same reason. This woman has proven that she will do whatever she can to save the planet from us. And, as the story points out, her husband is not only OK with this but he is ecstatic (shocking).

But I’m not sold on this yet. I don’t think she really gives an aborted fetus about what she’s doing. She even said this cutting her own argument out from under her legs:

“I’ve never doubted that I made the right decision. Ed and I married in September 2002, and have a much nicer lifestyle as a result of not having children.

“We love walking and hiking, and we often go away for weekends.

“Every year, we also take a nice holiday - we’ve just come back from South Africa.

“We feel we can have one long-haul flight a year, as we are vegan and childless, thereby greatly reducing our carbon footprint and combating over-population.”

Instead of having a kid that might someday find a cure for the world’s problems (people according to this woman) she’s having a long haul flight to South Africa. Somebody needs to tell this woman about carbon offsets because then she could go on as many trips as she wanted!

Even with the smell of hypocrisy in the air I still think this is a wonderful idea.

If every watermelon, um, environmentalist crusader, decided to get sterilized they would die out in a generation or two. Think I’m overstating this? Just take a look at Mark Steyn’s America Alone and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Whole countries are slowly trudging towards irrelevancy because they aren’t reproducing enough to sustain themselves. Environmentalism isn’t even a country, it’s a movement. So you can just imagine how quickly they would lose steam if more and more of these people decided to go the sterilization route.

You can couple this with the fact that most of the watermelon people I know already don’t have that many kids and you have yourself a movement that can throw a party but no one can come because there is no one at home to get the invites.

“But what about converts?” some of you are thinking. Yes, there will always be converts to any movement. Just look at the Shakers, that hapless religious cult that prohibited having sex at all, they weren’t getting any increase in membership through the midwives. But they were small and they died out after a while.

The total disappearance of environmentalism probably won’t be happening anytime soon. However, without the biggest zealots reproducing much if at all the movement will lose steam and direction.

Look at environmentalism today. It’s already being hijacked by corporations who are using it to generate more revenue and/or to score some of that pork from Congress. No one expects the next president, even a democrat, to wholly embrace Kyoto or Kyoto-like restrictions. They’re now content browbeating people into buying carbon credits or just planting a tree.

Watermelons don’t reproduce that much already and some of them are “fixing” their reproductive organs before they can do the world any “harm.” Paradoxically, the only way they can save the world is if they don’t exist. Here’s to green sterilizations! BigT
